DanSteel A/S has set up different energy goals, which are the company’s demands to itself, as an example we have set goals for the maximum consumption of m3 natural gas per ton produced steel plate.
As a responsible production company, DanSteel A/S wants to reduce its energy consumption by continuously increasing effectiveness of the production and work processes. The energy consumption is carefully examined at all stages and aspects: R&D, purchasing of new equipment and development and organizing of the production. Constant inspection is maintained in order to secure that the operation of the plate mill lives up to the of the energy consumption objective which is the smallest possible energy consumption per ton produced steel plates. DanSteel A/S is a large-scale consumer of energy, but we do not want to have an over-consumption of the limited energy resources of the earth and we strive to reduce the CO2 emission as much as possible.
Generally the energy management system shall secure that DanSteel A/S’ energy policy is maintained and that the energy goals set for the company are achieved through a series of tangible action plans. That’s why the energy management system is available for all employees with access to a computer.
DanSteel A/S’ energy system is certified by Det Norske Veritas A/S according to DS 2403:2001 and audit and recertifying will happen in autumn 2006.
The use of the energy management system and DS 2403 has among others for purpose to secure:
- that the standard is used to show and prove that DanSteel A/S works in accordance with the adopted energy policy
- that all relevant employees are involved in the company’s energy work and that an energy conscious behaviour is created, which can contribute to secure that DanSteel A/S gets the biggest possible effect of its effort within the energy area
- that the demands for a continued effectiveness and improvement of the energy conditions will be kept
- that DanSteel A/S’ energy work becomes visible towards our trade partners.
Agreement with the Danish Energy Authority The energy management system commits DanSteel A/S to have an agreement with the Danish Energy Authority regarding energy effectiveness. The agreement means that improvement in energy and possible reductions of the electricity consumption must be documented. Afterwards the company gets the CO2-duty of the electricity consumption for the “heavy” productions process refunded. DanSteel A/S is as a large-scale consumer of natural gas registered as a quote company and the Danish Energy Authority has approved the company’s monitoring plan of the biggest energy consuming plants. This has caused an allocation of CO2 quotes for use in the years 2005-2007 according to the Kyoto Agreement. Allocation of quotes for 2008-2012 follows later in 2006.
The consumption of MWh and the emission of a tonne of CO2 from gas burning are subject to an impartial inspection and auditing and the energy accounts must yearly be reported to the Danish Energy Authority and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, which manage the quote system.
