From descaling the slab is transported to the rolling stand. The slab temperature is now about 1180° C. The slab is turned and rolled under up to 3800-ton pressure to produce a plate of the required width and thickness.
The stand is a so-called "four-high" rolling stand, where 2 rolls, which are in contact with the slab, are supported by 2 bigger rolls.
NLMK DanSteel A/S also carries out normalising rolling of plates. Temperature and mechanical deformation are controlled during the rolling process, resulting in improved mechanical properties.
NLMK DanSteel A/S can produce steel plates from 6 to 100 mm in thickness, 3250 mm wide and up to 20 metres long.
