Shot blasting and priming
Purpose
The protection of steel materials against corrosion increases the life of a steel structure and provides a better working environment.
Untreated steel materials kept in the open air corrode quickly when exposed to the atmosphere. The longer the steel material is left unprotected, the shorter is the lifespan of the structure. Therefore an early protection by cleaning and priming of the steel surface is strongly recommended.
NLMK DanSteel A/S offers protection against corrosion of NLMK DanSteel A/S’ plates immediately after rolling.
Method
First the plate surface is cleaned automatically by shot blasting, using steel shots. The plate passes through a priming unit where a protective coating of paint (primer) is applied to both sides. Immediately afterwards the plate passes a drying cabinet where the paint is dried.
Primers
Our standard primers are 2-component zinc silicate primers in red, grey, and green colours.
Paint can be applied on top of our standard primers.
The thickness of the coating will be at least 15 µ, corresponding to 21 µ on a smooth surface or according to customer demand.
